The Labour Court recommended that an independent reviewer assess the salary of the deputy manager at Rath na nOg High Support Centre, who was paid 90% of Department of Education and Science rates. The recommendation was signed on 7 February 2006, following a claim by the Irish Municipal, Public and Civil Trade Union against the Health Service Executive North Eastern Area. The union said the deputy manager’s responsibilities matched posts paid at full rates. Management said he had accepted the salary and a full rate would erode the pay difference between the deputy manager and manager. The Court recommended that the parties appoint an independent person or body to compare the salary with similar posts and responsibilities, with both sides able to propose comparators.
