The Labour Court recommended that staff appointed before the effective date of an incremental-credit agreement should not be placed on a lower scale point than later appointees. It also recommended an ex-gratia payment of €1,500 to each claimant in full and final settlement. The recommendation was signed on 24 October 2005. The dispute concerned whether the agreement should cover earlier appointees as well as future staff. The Institute Of Technology and Teachers Union Of Ireland took opposing positions on the agreement’s reach and retrospective costs.
