Labour Court recommends €1,000 for An Post clerical officer’s 11-week acting-up work

The Labour Court recommended that An Post pay a clerical officer €1,000 for an 11-week period of acting-up work. The recommendation was dated 26 September 2005. The worker, who is not named in the decision, had temporarily taken on duties associated with a Staff Officer role. The Civil and Public Service Union argued the worker cleared a five-year backlog without training or extra pay and should receive the Staff Officer rate. An Post said the duties were within the clerical grade and that a 10.5% increase had already compensated for redeployment. The Court cited the case’s individual circumstances in recommending the ex-gratia payment. The union had valued its claim at €1,400.
