The Labour Court recommended that the Central Fisheries Board concede a €6,438 allowance for a worker's additional responsibilities, with the allowance reckonable for pension purposes and retrospective to 1 January 2001. The recommendation was dated 28 September 2005. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought a pensionable allowance, saying the worker's additional duties and success in fish farming warranted recognition. Management had offered a non-pensionable €4,000 per annum from January 2004 and said its offer was reasonable given the worker's grade and responsibilities. The Court said the circumstances were exceptional and the claim had considerable merit, while specifying that the recommendation should not be relied on in support of other claims.
