The Labour Court recommended that Herbert Park Hotel Limited pay €15,000 to a worker dismissed after two weeks as a conference and banqueting co-ordinator. In its recommendation dated 27 September 2005, the Court described her treatment as grossly unfair. The worker, who is not named in the decision, had agreed to be bound by the recommendation.
The worker left another job to take the hotel role, which paid less, and received two days of on-the-job training. She was then dismissed without an adequate explanation, despite her contract providing for a six-month probation period. The hotel did not attend the hearing.
The Court recommended the compensation in settlement of her claim. The worker was represented by Denis McSweeney Solicitors.
