The Labour Court recommended that Chivers Ireland Limited immediately implement proposed changes to working arrangements with full flexibility and agreement. The recommendation, dated 23 August 2005, followed a dispute with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union over changes at the company’s Coolock plant. The union said the changes could reduce earnings and sought compensation. The Court said the delay was harming the company’s ability to trade. If the changes were implemented continuously, it recommended increasing the compensation package already offered by 10%, with the extra amount paid as a lump sum at Christmas 2005.
