The Labour Court recommended raising an orderly wind-down payment to €4,500 in a severance dispute involving Tayto and four unions: the Amalgamated Transport and General Workers' Union, the Technical, Engineering and Electrical Union, Mandate, and the Amalgamated Engineering and Electrical Union. The recommendation was signed on 22 August 2005. The dispute followed the planned closure of the C & C Group’s Coolock manufacturing plant in October 2005. The unions sought better severance terms; Tayto said its final offer was reasonable and that proposals agreed for acceptance by the unions would cost in excess of €6.65 million. The Court recommended putting the modified offer to the unions for acceptance in full and final settlement.
