The Labour Court recommended that Galway Vec pay each claimant €300 for additional duties during its relocation to Athenry. The recommendation, dated 30 June 2005, also proposed 15 months of travelling expenses for staff who incurred extra travel costs and case-by-case consideration of expenses for staff who had to buy a car. The Irish Municipal, Public And Civil Trade Union had sought €1,000 per person, mileage payments for 15 months and further compensation for staff who bought an additional car. The VEC rejected the €1,000 payment but offered mileage payments and consideration of identified hardship expenses. The Court said the relocation claims were minor claims and noted that staff took on additional duties, saving the VEC removal expenses.
