Labour Court recommends closure of An Post’s remaining Letter Forwarding Offices by September

The Labour Court recommended that An Post and the Communications Workers’ Union agree to close all remaining Letter Forwarding Offices by 1 September 2005. The recommendation was dated 27 May 2005. An Post said the offices were no longer operationally needed after outward mail concentration. The union disputed the extent of the agreements and raised concerns about the effect on staff. The Court said continued retention of the offices was not justified where they were no longer operationally required for mail sorting. It recommended discussions on outstanding staff issues before closure, with unresolved matters referred back to the Court.
