The Labour Court recommended a further week’s pay per year of service for workers affected by the closure of A O Smith Electric Motors Irl Ltd’s Bray facility. The recommendation, signed on 5 May 2005, was conditional on full cooperation with an orderly closure and the transfer or realisation of the plant’s fixed assets and equipment. The company had offered one week’s pay per year of service plus statutory entitlements and other supports. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union (SIPTU) sought two weeks’ pay per year of service in addition to statutory entitlements. The Court recommended increasing the company’s offer by a further week per year of service.
