Labour Court defers Athlone IT technician reporting dispute pending sector review

The Labour Court said a dispute over reporting arrangements for technicians at Athlone Institute Of Technology should be addressed after a joint working party completed its review of technicians’ roles across the sector. The recommendation was signed on 29 April 2005. The dispute concerned a proposal to have certain technicians report to the Computer Services Manager instead of their individual school heads. Amicus MSF said IT service needs could be met without changing reporting arrangements and the issue should be considered through the sector review. Management said the IT manager needed responsibility for technical support staff.
