The Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and National Bus and Rail Union’s claim for €2,000 per driver over disruption during construction of a new railcar facility at Drogheda. The recommendation was dated 25 April 2005. The unions said drivers faced unpleasant conditions, earlier starts and periods without water or electricity. Iarnrod Eireann said a site manager and regular meetings addressed problems, and it considered the disruption less serious than at other sites. The Court said compensation was not an appropriate way to address health and safety concerns, and that the other disruption did not justify conceding the claim.
