The Labour Court recommended a €100,000 lump-sum payment to a consultant paediatrician at University College Dublin in place of retrospective payments linked to an academic consultant contract. The recommendation was signed on 18 April 2005. The contract issue had been resolved between the parties; the remaining dispute concerned retrospection.
The Court recommended payment when the new contract began, provided it started by 1 June 2005. If it began later, the recommended sum would increase weekly by the extra payment due under the contract. UCD opposed retrospection to 1994 and argued it should date only from when the claim was formalised in 2003.
