In 2005, the Labour Court recommended that a dispute between Mayo County Council and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union over on-call payments be resolved through negotiations. The claim covered 30 waterworks and sewage caretakers. The union sought an annual retainer of €2,540, €63.50 for each call and at least three hours at treble time. The Court noted that negotiations on a national on-call system had taken place and proposals had been sent to the union. The hearing took place in Castlebar on 23 March. The recommendation was signed by Kevin Duffy on 8 April 2005.
