The Labour Court recommended that Castle T Furniture Ltd increase a welder’s hourly rate to €16.44 from 6 April 2005 and pay €1,000 in retrospection. It also recommended that further increases follow national wage agreements and that the parties conclude and implement an agreement on normal trade union facilities. The union had sought a rate in line with the Construction Industry Federation minimum craft rate and access to union representation. The company did not attend the hearing. The Court said the pay increase was justified and accepted that the union should have normal facilities to represent its members.
