The Labour Court did not recommend either of the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claims at Smurfit Corrugated Cases. Its recommendation was dated 28 February 2005. The union sought an acting-up allowance for Despatch staff when company management was unavailable, and the reintroduction of lead-hand rates for the printer on a Bobst 1575 machine. The Court said the 2002 arrangement had regraded Despatch staff and did not support the acting-up claim. It also found that the 1999 agreement had reduced lead-hand positions on the machine to one, with arrangements to protect existing workers from losing out.
