In 2005, the Labour Court recommended that Wicklow County Council pay €3,500 compensation to a general operative after finding the Council seriously remiss in how it filled a Water Caretaker vacancy in Greystones. The Court said the worker was entitled to have an application properly considered, although there was no certainty he would have been appointed. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said the vacancy should have been advertised and that the worker had relevant experience. The Council acknowledged that its recruitment procedures at the time were not as robust as they should have been. The recommendation was signed on 23 February 2005.
