The Labour Court did not recommend a machine-rate premium for operators of a new Scitex Press Jet 2 printer at Print & Display Limited. It recommended increasing the company’s one-off training allowance to €1,000 for operatives trained and certified to run the machine, for acceptance by the Irish Print Group. The recommendation was signed on 22 February 2005. The union sought a 25% premium for the two operators, arguing that the machine brought extra duties and vigilance. The company said there had been no material change in work practices to justify higher pay.
