The Labour Court recommended terms for An Post - SDS and the Communication Workers Union (Cwu) as the parcels business was reintegrated into An Post following SDS’s closure. The recommendation was dated 16 March 2005; both parties had agreed to be bound by it. The recommendations covered staff allowances, earnings protection, severance and early retirement options, staffing levels and depot management across Dublin, Athlone, Limerick, Cork and Portlaoise. The Court recommended a fallback payment of up to €1,000 per week for eight weeks for owner-drivers whose earnings fell below that amount, and restoration of money deducted from staff suspended without pay during the stated period. It declined the change-allowance claim for LDN drivers in Athlone and Portlaoise, whose duties were mainly letter post.
