The Labour Court recommended that University Of Limerick Students Union offer a worker an additional redundancy payment equal to two weeks' pay per year of service, without a cap on weekly pay. The recommendation, dated 15 February 2005, was made in full and final settlement of the worker's claim. The worker, who had been an accountant and then financial controller, received statutory redundancy after his role ended. The union said he had not been offered a combined post despite being willing to take an annual salary cut of €11,000. The employer cited financial difficulties and said enhanced payments would worsen them. The Court considered the claim not unreasonable despite the employer's financial circumstances.
