In 2005, the Labour Court recommended a 2% pay increase for banqueting bar staff at The Berkeley Court Hotel, to take effect from when the worker began providing increased flexibility and cooperation. The recommendation was dated 10 February 2005 and was offset against any final productivity settlement with the hotel’s bar staff. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union had sought a 9% increase and retrospection. It said banqueting staff had provided flexibility, including late Saturday bar opening. The hotel said agreement had not been reached on rostering and it did not want a separate agreement for one part of its bar operation. The Court said the recommendation reflected the flexibility and cooperation already given and was unique to the worker’s circumstances.
