The Labour Court recommended that Groprint Limited increase pay rates by the outstanding 7% from 1 May 2005 and that the company and Graphical Paper & Media Union meet to agree a way to resolve retrospective payments. The recommendation was signed on 20 January 2005. The union sought unpaid increases due under Sustaining Progress, saying members had accepted non-replacement of staff and co-operated with workplace changes. Groprint said financial difficulties prevented it from paying the remaining increases or backdated amounts, but indicated it expected to pay the outstanding 7% from May 2005. The Court considered Groprint’s financial pressures and its expectation that conditions would improve somewhat. It recommended the increase from 1 May 2005 and a meeting to agree a mechanism for resolving the retrospective payments due under the agreements.
