The Labour Court recommended that St. James’s Hospital and the Irish Nurses Organisation meet to agree more long days for nurses taking a joint postgraduate ICU/CCU course, without significantly affecting clinical exposure. The union sought a shift from five attendance days to three longer days a week, with a four-day week once a month. Management said course assessors believed more long days would reduce clinical exposure and learning opportunities. The Court said greater consultation could have taken place about nurses’ concerns and recommended mutually satisfactory rostering for new ICU and CCU courses. The recommendation was signed on 17 January 2005.
