In 2004, the Labour Court recommended a €13 hourly rate and a 39-hour standard week for drivers employed by Goode Concrete. The Automobile General Engineering Mechanical Operatives Trade Group represented the drivers. The recommendation also covered overtime premiums, holiday pay, safety facilities and workplace procedures. It followed a dispute in which the company challenged the union’s representation; the Court accepted the union’s assurance that it represented employees involved. It also recommended confirmation that employees could join or not join a union without adverse consequences, and changes to grievance and disciplinary procedures to provide for union representation and State dispute-resolution procedures. The recommendation was dated 9 December.
