In 2004, the Labour Court recommended changes on several issues raised by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union at Sifco Turbine Group. The recommendation was dated 7 October 2004. It recommended formally setting out the basis and terms of the 10% bonus, disclosing profit targets and actual results, and providing an internal appeals mechanism for performance appraisals. The Court also recommended conceding the union's claim to harmonise overtime premia between production staff and supervisors. It did not recommend extending the production bonus to supervisors or returning the annual review date to January. It made no recommendation on grievance procedures because the issue was not properly before it. The Court rejected the employer's objection that the alleged refusals to work overtime constituted industrial action.
