In 2004, the Labour Court recommended that four Flair International workers retain their 14% shift allowance for 18 months after they were moved to day work. The recommendation, signed on 15 July, followed the loss of the premium when demand fell and the company later ceased production. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union had sought restoration of the allowance or redundancy. Flair International said the move followed falling demand and was in line with its agreement with the union. The Court cited the workers’ exceptionally long service and also recommended that they be reassigned if the shift resumed.
