In 2004, the Labour Court recommended that University College Cork pay €4,000 upfront as part payment of compensation for security officers losing earnings after proposed staffing changes. The dispute affected about 50 officers and concerned Sunday, Christmas and exam cover. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought upfront compensation; the university said it needed 12 months to calculate losses. The Court recommended that any remaining compensation under the university’s formula be paid after the assessment, and that staffing and roster changes begin within four weeks. The recommendation was dated 9 July 2004.
