The Labour Court found that merit had not been established in a union claim for a caretaker at Athlone Community College to receive the higher rate associated with a senior caretaker post. It could not recommend in favour of the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim. The recommendation was dated 22 June 2004. The union said the caretaker had significant coordination duties and should receive the rate paid to a previous postholder. Westmeath Vec said those duties were part of a caretaker’s job and there was no senior caretaker grade.
