Labour Court recommends monitoring staff parking at St Vincents Hospital

In a dispute over parking charges during a €200 million redevelopment, the Labour Court recommended that St Vincents Hospital and the Irish Nurses Organisation establish a group to monitor use of the staff car park. The recommendation was signed on 8 March 2004. The union said staff had traditionally parked for free and that management introduced charges without consulting it. The hospital said parking was limited, no staff member had been guaranteed free parking and it had consulted staff groups. The Court was not satisfied that free parking was an implied term of employment or that guaranteed parking was reasonable.
