In 2003, the Labour Court recommended that the Association Of Secondary School Teachers (Asti) pay staff expenses due immediately and address concerns about workplace procedures. Some employees were owed thousands of euro, the Court said, and any dispute over individual amounts could be referred back to it. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union brought the dispute on behalf of ASTI members, alleging failures to follow an agreed protocol, damaging communications and unpaid expenses. ASTI's representatives sought an adjournment citing an interim High Court injunction, but management did not attend the hearing. The Court described the organisation as deeply divided and urged management to clarify responsibilities and ensure employees could work in a suitable atmosphere.
