Labour Court recommends €7,500 for Shannon Tugs worker in redundancy dispute

The Labour Court recommended that Shannon Tugs Limited pay €7,500 to a worker after finding there had been an expectation the worker would be retained under a November 2000 agreement. The recommendation, dated 10 November 2003, was in full and final settlement of claims against the company. The dispute followed the company’s decision to cease operations on the Shannon Estuary. The union said the redundancy package had been agreed on the understanding that the worker would remain employed until 31 May 2003. The company said there was no guarantee of employment until that date and negotiations depended on commercial viability.
