The Labour Court recommended that Shannon Tugs Limited pay a worker €7,500 in compensation after a dispute over redundancy terms. The recommendation was signed on 10 November 2003. The dispute arose after the company ceased operations on the Shannon Estuary before the expected end of a contract in May 2003. The union said the redundancy package had been agreed on the understanding that the worker would remain employed until then. Shannon Tugs said there was no guarantee of employment to that date and no further entitlement beyond the terms already accepted. The Court found there had been an expectation that the worker would be retained and recommended €7,500 as compensation, in full and final settlement of all claims against the company.
