The Labour Court recommended that Iarnrod Eireann (Longford) did not concede four locomotive drivers’ claim over how vacancies at the reopened Longford Depot were allocated. The recommendation was signed on 4 November 2003. The workers said agreements gave drivers in the Western/Galway promotional area first call on the vacancies. Management said the depot staffing arrangements had been agreed with the relevant unions. The Court found no fault with the agreed process, noting that Mr Ward had been appointed to a relief position and was next in line for future vacancies.
