Labour Court backs Iralco redundancy terms but rejects union’s LIFO claim

By Gráinne Nolan

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court recommended that Iralco honour its June agreement on redundancy terms, deferring payment of any amount above €45,000 pending further talks. The recommendation was signed on 4 November 2003. The dispute with the Amalgamated Transport and General Workers’ Union also covered selection for redundancy. The Court accepted that last in, first out was an acceptable selection method but found it did not arise because the entire Line Manager grade was being eliminated. It did not recommend conceding the union’s LIFO claim.
