The Labour Court recommended that a worker at Guinness Ireland accept he was not entitled to a redundancy package, in a recommendation signed on 15 October 2003. The worker, represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, had retired on medical grounds in 1998, before a later rationalisation plan took effect. The worker sought the same treatment as employees who received redundancy terms under that plan. The Court said it could see no basis to recommend concession of the claim.
