Labour Court recommends €7,500 for assistant after finding dismissal unfair

The Labour Court recommended €7,500 compensation for a special needs assistant after finding that the manner of her dismissal from St. Patrick's Boys National School was unfair. The recommendation was signed on 14 October 2003. The Court said she had not been made aware of her performance shortcomings or the consequences of the perceived problems. It also found the criteria used to select her for dismissal were unfair, and that management led her to believe another post might be available without making clear she was unlikely to get it. The worker was represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union.
