The Labour Court recommended that Iarnrod Eireann’s proposals for changes to on-track machine operators’ pay and working arrangements be accepted, with amendments, in a recommendation signed on 13 October 2003. The Court recommended maintaining the Grade 1 pay relationship at 91.23%, making any increase in night work voluntary, and replacing meal allowances and hours payments at distant sites with travel and subsistence allowance. It also recommended reviewing that arrangement after 12 months and applying an agreed formula to any earnings shortfall. The National Bus and Rail Union and Services Industrial Professional Technical Union were parties to the dispute.
