In 2003, the Labour Court recommended that Iarnrod Eireann and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union resolve a dispute over acting-up pay at Athlone Signal Cabin in accordance with a binding committee decision. The recommendation was dated 30 September 2003. The union sought the tenth point of the Signals Person Grade 1 scale, €770.18 a week, arguing that the work involved technical equipment and extra responsibility. The company offered the sixth point, €693.16 a week, and said the committee chairman’s June 2003 decision was consistent with his earlier decision.
