Labour Court recommends faster pay progression and further shift transfer talks at Analog Devices

The Labour Court recommended accelerated progression for operators transferred to Analog Devices’ higher MTM grade, with reviews after six months at the second and third points on the scale. It also recommended further discussions on one-off shift transfer opportunities. The recommendation was signed on 25 September 2003. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought recognition of workers’ previous service in their pay progression and retention of their place on shift transfer lists after restructuring moved operators from the 4FAB area to the more skilled 6/8FAB area. The company argued that progression depended on performance and that transfer rights could displace other workers already on the list. The Court said service alone did not justify incremental increases, but recommended accelerated progression after six-month reviews. On transfer lists, it recognised the union’s claim had merit but shared the company’s concerns about displacing workers and creating inconsistencies. It recommended further discussion on whether limited transfer opportunities could be provided on a once-off, red-circled basis.
