In 2003, the Labour Court recommended voluntary redundancy selection and severance of twice statutory entitlement, inclusive of that entitlement, for 12 special needs assistants at Daughters Of Charity - Board Of Management - St Vincent's School. The recommendation was dated 22 September 2003. The Irish Municipal, Public And Civil Trade Union had sought eight weeks' pay per year of service plus statutory entitlement. Management said the school could not fund an ex-gratia package and that the redundancies followed the withdrawal of funding for the positions. The Court recommended last in, first out if too few workers volunteered, and seniority to decide selection if too many volunteered.
