In 2003, the Labour Court did not recommend conceding Manufacturing, Science, Finance’s claim for double time and a day's leave in lieu for staff working the Central Bank's December privilege day. The recommendation was signed on 17 September 2003. The union argued that the day should be treated as a bank holiday under a 1998 agreement. The Bank said staff received a day off or leave in lieu and that extra payments had not been agreed. The Court found the privilege day was not a bank holiday under that agreement and upheld the Bank's interpretation.
