In 2003, the Labour Court recommended a Saturday premium of time plus 25% for a clerical worker at Cork C0-Operative Marts Limited after her roster changed following 28 years of Monday-to-Friday work. The recommendation was signed on 15 September 2003 and applied from 1 January 2003 on a personal-to-holder basis. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought compensation for the roster change and a Saturday premium, saying the change affected the worker’s family and social life. The company argued that Saturday work in a five-day-over-six-day roster did not carry a premium. The Court said that, given her length of service, the change went beyond normal ongoing change.
