In 2003, the Labour Court recommended that Iralco not concede Amalgamated Transport And General Workers' Union's claim to restore attendance bonuses affected by an unofficial stoppage involving about 260 workers. The stoppage followed a dispute over a payment to polishing-room workers. The union said the workers had stopped after deductions were made without explanation; Iralco argued that the stoppage lacked notice and a ballot. The Court said the claim sought remuneration for time spent in unofficial industrial action. It heard the case in Athlone on 26 August and dated its recommendation 8 September 2003.
