Labour Court rejects Irish Congress of Trade Union claim for Naas travelling-time allowance

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court rejected the Irish Congress of Trade Union’s claim for Dublin travelling-time allowance for craft workers at Naas Hospital. The recommendation was signed on 6 October 2003. The union said the workers were administratively linked to the Cherry Orchard Engineering Base and should receive at least an hour’s travelling time each day. The South Western Area Health Board, representing the Eastern Regional Health Authority, argued the workers had never worked in Dublin and were outside the agreement’s coverage. The Court accepted there was an administrative link to Cherry Orchard but said it did not justify the allowance because the workers had never worked in Dublin or been at the Cherry Orchard base.
