In 2003, the Labour Court recommended setting aside a pay-parity claim by the Irish Municipal, Public And Civil Trade Union on behalf of instructors at Galway County Association, pending sector-wide benchmarking discussions. The union said the instructors' qualifications and duties were similar to those of Western Health Board instructors. The Association said the Health Board rates were outside national arrangements and that its own pay scales depended on approved funding. The Labour Court, which heard the dispute on 6 August, said the union could refer the claim back if needed after the discussions. Its recommendation was dated 4 September 2003.
