In 2003, the Labour Court recommended that Wexport Ltd pay a once-off €500 to each operative involved in new pipe disassembly and assembly duties after appropriate training. The recommendation was signed on 21 August 2003. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said the work had previously been done by Technical Services and workers should be compensated for taking it on. Wexport said the duties were part of normal ongoing change and opposed extra payment. The Court noted the union had no technical or principled objection to the work but wanted a gain-sharing or profit-sharing scheme. It recommended cooperation after training in return for the payment.
