In 2003, the Labour Court recommended that benchmarking be made available to Central Bank Of Ireland service staff in the next round of negotiations. Its recommendation, signed on 29 August 2003, said the talks should take account of an apparent imbalance in settlements. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought a review of roles and pay for security, catering, cleaning, currency and porter staff. The bank said the claim would begin another round of special pay awards and was barred by national agreements. The Court was not satisfied that the group was a pay round behind clerical, administrative and professional staff, but acknowledged a significant difference in settlement levels.
