The Labour Court did not recommend conceding a pay-parity claim by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union on behalf of five Cappa Pilot Boat Crew members employed by Cappa Pilot Station (Shannon Foynes Port Company). It recommended that the employer review attendance requirements to see whether hours on duty could be reduced. The recommendation was dated 31 July 2003. The union sought parity with Foynes boat crew, along with backdating, preservation of the pay differential, matching holiday entitlements and access to the same pension scheme. The company argued that the crews performed different work. The Court said a parity claim had to account for differences in the structures, functions and activities of the employments.
