The Labour Court recommended that Fitzgerald Packaging concede in full a claim by two workers for an agreed severance package after the Dublin plant closed. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought implementation of the earlier package, which included three weeks' pay per year of service plus statutory redundancy. The recommendation was dated 14 July 2003. The union said the workers had stayed on expecting permanent employment and accepted statutory redundancy payments under protest. Fitzgerald Packaging did not attend the hearing. The Court considered the union's submission and uncontested evidence before recommending that the claim be conceded in full.
