Labour Court backs St. John's Hospital nursing managers' rotation

By Gráinne Nolan

Historic decision · Decision date:

Place: no local area assigned from the source.

The Labour Court did not recommend that St. John's Hospital concede two Clinical Nurse Managers' claims to return to their original work areas or receive compensation. Its recommendation was dated 9 July 2003. The Irish Nurses' Organisation said the Two Workers had been appointed to particular areas and had worked on their respective floors for more than 20 years. St. John's Hospital said they were appointed to the hospital rather than specific wards, and that rotation supported staff development and patient care. The Court considered the rotation reasonable and within management's right to manage.
